In a move that surely won’t make waves around the league, the Penguins acquired 36-year old goalie Michael Leighton and a fourth round draft choice from the Arizona Coyotes for forward Josh Archibald, goalie Sean Maguire, and a sixth round draft choice.
Leighton is a career 37-43-14 with four shutouts. He owns a 2.98 GAA and .900 SV%. He spent this season in Arizona’s minor league system.
Archibald has been a consistent healthy scratch for the Penguins this season but played in his third game Monday night. He hasn’t recorded a point yet this season but has 3 goals in 14 career games and was among the Penguins best forwards Monday.
Maguire is another AHL goalie who didn’t have much of a future in the Penguins organization.
Leighton seems to be an AHL goalie to provide extra depth incase of injuries.
UPDATE: The Penguins flipped the fourth round choice they got from the Coyotes to the Dallas Stars for defenseman Jamie Oleksiak.
Oleksiak is a 6’7″ defenseman with 3 points in 21 games this season. He’s never played more than 41 games and has never scored more than 8 points in a season.
