Springfield Thunderbirds (Home) – 6-3 Win

As well as the 3 injuries mentioned above, Tinordi and Johnson take a healthy scratch, with Haggerty and Quinney getting in at forward, and Spionzzi stays in as a result of his strong showing on Sunday. A great back hand saucer pass by Haggerty over to Pedan create a 2 on 1 opportunity in which Pedan took the option of shooting and sniped the puck top shelf over Montembeault in the Springfield net for a 1-0 lead with 5 minutes left in the 1st period. Just over a minute after, a point shot deflected off DiPauli’s shinpad to sneak past DeSmith and tie the game 1-1 and then another 90 seconds after that Springfield take a 2-1 lead after WBS couldn’t clear their zone. 8 and a half minutes into the 2nd period, Springfield added a powerplay goal after an attempted pass bounced past DeSmith off Spionzzi’s skate, advancing their lead to 3-1. WBS responded with not quite a powerplay goal, as McKegg scores his first for the Baby Penguins just as the powerplay expired, after the puck was dug out from a point shot by Aston-Reese and the puck fell to McKegg in the slot. WBS then tied the game 3-3 through a legitimate powerplay goal from Sprong potting a one timer from Colin Smith going through the Springfield penalty killing box with a perfect pass. The game entered the 2nd intermission tied 3-3. After 5 minutes in the 3rd period, a quick breakout from WBS created an odd man opportunity against Springfield and Wilson found Sprong who outwaited the goalie and deposited his 2nd goal of the game for a 4-3 WBS lead. They then padded the lead through Haggerty, who was the recipient of an Aston-Reese created turnover and pass. A dagger through professional annoyance Pat McGrath scoring on the empty net with just over a minute left to ensure a WBS 6-3 victory.
