Hockey and Coffee: Week of October 22 – 29

The Galchenyuk Situation

Mario Tremblay reported Thursday on his radio show in Montreal that Canadiens forward Alex Galchenyuk spent time in rehab over the summer. For those who do not know who Tremblay is, he is the head coach that left Patrick Roy in for the 9 goal embarrassment that ended up being his last game as a Canadien. Tremblay reported this as if everyone knew about Glach’s situation over the summer, of course this is false. Although it has yet to be confirmed by Glach himself, no one has denied it yet. Nevertheless, if the entire situation is true or not we can agree on how terrible it is for Tremblay to break this news without the consent of Glach or the Montreal organization. It is terrible for a reporter to put a player’s personal life out there without them being aware. I cannot speak kindly for Mario Tremblay, and I hope all the best for Galch, as a hockey player and more importantly as a person. This is a story I feel was not covered in the States, and if you want to hear more on the situation I recommend listening to the latest episode of the Steve Dangle Podcast.

Johnny T Lights The Lamp

New York Islanders’ captain, John Tavares, ended a six game dry spell by scoring seven goals and ten points in just three games. Tavares scored a hat trick on Tuesday against the Arizona Coyotes and another one, this time natural, against the Nashville Predators on Friday night; the seventh goal coming from Saturday’s game versus the San Jose Sharks. John now has eight regular hat tricks and two natural across his nine season career. Tavares has played in eleven games this season and has tallied thirteen points. Surprisingly, though, he has only scored points in four games.

Kessel Reaches 300 Goals

Thursday, October 26th was a monumental moment for Penguins’ winger, Phil Kessel. Not only did he score his second overtime game-winner of the week, but it was also his 300th career goal. Kessel has been in the league since 2006, notching 66 goals with Boston, 181 with Toronto, and 53 with Pittsburgh. Let’s take a look at goal number 300 for Kessel.
