Three Takeaways: Penguins Defeat Jets, 2-1 in OT

The Pittsburgh Penguins defeated the Winnipeg Jets Thursday night, 2-1. Their record is now 7-3-1. Here are the Three Takeaways.

All Aboard The Murray Train

Seriously, can we start giving this kid the respect he deserves. He is much better than an “average” goalie as the Penguins’ and fans have been blessed with another franchise goalie after already having one for years prior. He made 30 saves Thursday and looked solid in doing so. Teams are only as good as their goalie and I think it is fair to say there is a stark contrast between Matt Murray and former Penguin Antti Niemi.

Sid and His Kids

Yet again, Jake GuentzelSidney Crosby, and Conor Sheary are back at it again. Sheary scored in the first period after a sick tip on a pass by Guentzel. Crosby got that play started. The entire night, the trio had been making tons of great plays and creating ample scoring chances. They are the top line for a reason and when they play like they did in this contest, there isn’t many lines in hockey that are better.

Letang Is…Out There

Kris Letang has been very average since returning to the Penguins’ lineup. He has also only played 11 games since a major neck surgery that could’ve cut his career short. I want to give a talent like Letang a break because he is what he is: a top-10 defensive talent with a head that I don’t believe is always there at times. He is mistake prone, but a high risk defenseman like Letang usually brings about a high reward. We all saw Letang score on Murray with that tip but I believe he will get it going soon. After all, he did hit the post on the powerplay.
